UBTA and the NISS will help the Government shape Ukraine's position on climate change


On Tuesday, October 13, from 15:00 to 17:00, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the UN, UBTA together with the National Institute for Strategic Studies (NISS) with the support of the UN Office in Ukraine will hold an international round table on climate change : "European Green Deal, International Commitments, Priorities and Opportunities for Ukraine” to help align Ukraine's national climate change adaptation priorities with the Global Agenda, with an emphasis on the sustainable development of all sectors of Ukraine's economy.

For several years in a row, the issue of climate change has been at the forefront of the international and national political agendas of many countries and the UN agenda, and since December 2019 it has become the cornerstone of the EU Green Deal.

Also the subject of the European Green Deal should be included in the agenda of the revision of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement in the economic part. Therefore, Ukraine already has to form a proactive and well-thought-out position so that the conditions for the implementation of EU Green Deal under the renewed Agreement preserve the conditions of trade and economic integration with the EU that are favorable for our economy. At the same time, while maintaining the ambition of Ukraine’s contribution to combating climate change and preventing the use of climate change issues as trade barriers.

The event will also discuss Ukraine’s potential commitments under the Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC2) and the risks of the EU’s carbon border adjustment mechanism under the European Green Deal.

The round table will be held online, with the participation of a wide range of government officials and statesmen, experts, scientists, representatives of international organizations and Ukrainian exporters.

As a result of the event, recommendations for the Government of Ukraine will be formulated, as well as a publication will be prepared with key theses and proposals of the participants on the European Green Deal and adaptation to climate change.
