The European Commission initiated a second periodic revision of the definitive safeguard measures applicable to imports of steel products from third countries, which were introduced in January 2019. The relevant notice was posted on the European Commission's website.

The purpose of the initiated revision is to assess the effects of the safeguard measures on the situation of European metallurgical industry, traditional EU trade relations with third countries and the downstream industries in Europe, as well as influence of safeguard measures on the EU trade relations with preferential trade partners such as Ukraine.

The launch of the second periodic revision of safeguard measures is important for the Ukrainian metallurgical industry. In 2019 Ukraine was the 12th global producer of steel.

The first revision of such measures was held in September 2019.
